Why Nevada APEX? Why Not.

Written By: Joan Rueben, Director of Nevada APEX Accelerator

Nevada APEX team members: Joan Rueben, Candice Meyers and Ken Winberg.

It may be said aloud or in the quiet of one’s mind by a Nevada small business owner, “Is government contracting right for my small business?”  The Nevada APEX Accelerator team interacts with countless small business owners or representatives each year.  Many have never thought about selling their goods and/or services to local, state, or federal government agencies or to the government’s prime contractors inside and/or outside Nevada.  The more they think about it, they wish they had started offering their services and/or products in the public sector much sooner.  Government contracting has broadened perspectives and opened a new business arena for Nevada small businesses.  With tenacity and determination, they have found new markets and customers, organizational missions to help support, a diversified business portfolio, business innovations, revenue streams, profitable work, and executed contracts they have performed under and can easily reference for future business.  Nevada business owners have been able to secure their livelihoods and income streams and those of their team members, and have truly helped to create and keep jobs and diversify Nevada’s economy.

When it comes to finding new markets and customers, Nevada small business owners learn from their respective Nevada APEX government contracts advisor about where to find local, state, or federal government prime contracting and subcontracting opportunities to competitively bid or propose on.  Nevada APEX team members help make sense of the different portals and websites, as there are many, but each specializes in its own area.  For example, there is one for federal government procurements leading to contracts, a different one for contracting opportunities with the State of Nevada Purchasing Division not to mention there are others for different individual states, and another one for Nevada local government or local publicly-funded procurements leading to contracts not to mention there are even more websites for individual local government or local publicly-funded entities outside of Nevada looking to buy a vast number of products and services each day.  Lastly, there is even a portal to find subcontracting opportunities with prime contractors.  This is just the tip of the iceberg.

If your business is not already a formal client of the Nevada APEX team, which is a taxpayer-funded resource that does not charge for its services, please consider becoming one.  The statewide Nevada APEX is funded, in part, through a formal, cost-sharing cooperative agreement with the U.S. Department of Defense/War.  The same goes for other APEXes across the nation and in some U.S. territories.

If your business is headquartered in Nevada, and is interested in selling your goods and/or services in the public sector, please see the “Becoming a Client” section of APEX’s webpage on the GOED website: https://goed.nv.gov/programs/nevada-apex-accelerator/.
