Opening Doors to Government Contracts

Written By: Joan Rueben, Director of Nevada APEX Accelerator

One of the most effective business arrangements is when companies decide to collaborate and team with one another to pursue government contracts with agencies and/or subcontracts with the government’s prime contractors. While the Nevada APEX Accelerator team helps to facilitate such collaboration and teaming, it finds intrinsic satisfaction when a Nevada APEX client reaches out to share just how instrumental the Nevada APEX team was in its government contracting journey.

Earlier in the year in late April, the Nevada APEX team hosted its second of two Virtual Innovation Initiative webinars, which was an outgrowth of the Nevada APEX-led January 12, 2026 in-person event held in Las Vegas called “Strengthening the Defense Industrial Base (DIB) via American Ingenuity.” The webinar featured a representative from the Nevada APEX who provided an APEX overview presentation, one from the National Defense Industrial Association-Southern Nevada Chapter who spoke about microreactors and small modular reactors in light of the national security energy strategy, and a leader from a Nevada APEX client’s Space Cybersecurity Research & Development Division. There were 72 business representatives from across the U.S. who attended the webinar.

During the webinar, the Nevada APEX client shared how its mission is to explore, innovate, and advance next-generation cybersecurity solutions for space-based technologies, and discussed its indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract with the federal government. The client also shared how it was seeking teaming partners with certain capabilities for task order proposals to be submitted under the contract. After the webinar, the Nevada APEX client notified APEX in May relaying how six unique companies with complementary capabilities and potential collaboration interests contacted it in the spirit of strategic partnering and in creating new opportunities. The client sent an email to the Nevada APEX stating, “Joan, I also wanted to share this as an example of the powerful impact your office can have on small businesses through facilitating introductions and helping build meaningful partnerships and collaboration opportunities.” In June, the client sent an email to the Nevada APEX stating that it and one of the six companies partnered on a cognitive visual recognition solution that has received positive feedback during recent government and industry engagement activities. The solution has generated significant interest for its ability to rapidly analyze and transform large volumes of structured, unstructured, and visual data into actionable intelligence, operational insights, and mission-focused analytics.

If your business is not already a formal client of the Nevada APEX team, which is a taxpayer-funded resource that does not charge for its services, please consider becoming one.

The statewide Nevada APEX is funded, in part, through a formal, cost-sharing cooperative agreement with the U.S. Department of War. The same goes for other APEXes across the nation and in some U.S. territories. If your business is headquartered in Nevada, and is interested in selling your goods and/or services in the public sector, please see the “Becoming a Client” section of APEX’s webpage on the GOED website.
