Clark, Storey Among Top Counties in Emsi’s Sixth Annual Talent Attraction Scorecard

November 5, 2021

CARSON CITY, Nev.– Clark County was ranked second among large counties and Storey was first among micro counties in Emsi’s sixth annual Talent Attraction Scorecard.

Emsi is a labor market data company that provides data and services that help people promote economic prosperity, mobility, and equity in their organizations and communities. The Governor’s Office of Economic Development and the Governor’s Office of Workforce Innovation worked with Emsi to develop an online SkillsMatch tool to help people get back into the job market and figure out how to learn what skills and certifications are necessary to advance their careers.

“This survey is a good indicator that Nevada is on the right track in meeting the talent pool demand that our incoming and growing companies need to thrive,” said Gov. Steve Sisolak. “Our job training programs and community colleges have never been more valuable in providing Nevadans pathways to good jobs and career pathways.”

Emsi has been ranking counties on how well they’re doing at developing their talent pool based on:

  • IRS migration data
  • Job growth (overall and skilled)
  • Education attainment
  • Regional competitiveness
  • Job openings per capita

For the second straight year, Clark County ranked second among counties in the country with more than 100,000. Clark County’s education attainment jumped by 19 percent and its skilled occupation change improved by 9 percent.

Storey County – fueled by the development of the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center – was the top-ranked micro county (less than 5,000 population) for the third straight year. Storey’s education attainment leaped 48 percent while its skilled occupation change increased by 209 percent.
