New GOED Executive Director Michael Brown Announces Work Will Begin to Update State Economic Development Plan

The new Executive Director of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) shared that work has begun on updating the 2012 Economic Development Plan, the official planning document used to guide economic development in Nevada.

“In January we will be convening the leading experts on economic development to update the 2012 Plan with a focus on fortifying the Nevada economy and aligning economic development with workforce needs,” said GOED Executive Director Michael Brown. “We will develop a plan that fulfills the Governor’s goal of bringing prosperity to every Nevada family’s dinner table.”
GOED will partner with Brookings Mountain West and the consulting firm SRI, to develop the plan in a multi-stakeholder process for the board to consider at its March 2020 meeting. The plan will include recommendations for the governor and the legislature to consider in the 2021 legislative session.

The GOED board is comprised of Gov. Sisolak, Lt. Gov. Kate Marshall, Secretary of State Barbara Cegavske, six business leaders and two non-voting members, Chancellor of the Nevada System of Higher Education, and the Director of the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation.

Eight businesses today received tax abatements and incentives to build or expand in the state of Nevada, bringing a total of $235,804,800 in capital investments to the state.

The following businesses were awarded performance-based incentives:

  • Golden Gate Renewables, LLC – Storey County: (35 jobs and $116,883,029 in capital investments) Golden Gate Renewables will process renewable sources of feedstock (fats and oils) into clean renewable diesel which will be used as a direct replacement for conventional diesel fuel that helps to reduce greenhouse emissions. The Golden Gate Renewable’s team is one of the first to sell renewable diesel in California.
  • Hard Eight Nutrition LLC dba Bulksupplements.com – Clark County: (60 jobs and $4,372,309 in capital investments) BulkSupplements.com imports, packages and distributes pure dietary supplement ingredients to both consumers and businesses producing a variety of
    food and cosmetic products. The company supplies over 400 pure nutritional supplement ingredients to hundreds of thousands of consumers and manufacturers.
  • Performance Food Group, Inc. – Washoe County: (84 jobs and $29,860,334 in capital investments) PFG is the parent company to Performance Foodservice, Vistar and PFG Customized. The company distributes a range of food products and has more than 14,000 employees. PFG is environmentally conscientious using energy-efficient facilities and hi-tech energy management systems. The company recycles in its warehouse and office facilities and uses recycled materials to clean its fleet trucks.
  • Smithfield Foods dba Saratoga Food Specialties – Clark County (61 jobs and 28,612,000 in capital investments) For over 70 years, Saratoga Food Specialties has excelled in purveying customized dry seasoning blends for retail, industrial and major food service companies and applications. Saratoga Food Specialties is a business of Smithfield Foods, an American food company with agricultural roots and a global reach. Headquartered in Smithfield, VA, since 1936, Smithfield’s 40,000 U.S. employees are dedicated to producing “Good Food. Responsibly.®”
  • Visual Impact PrePrint Vegas, LLC – Clark County: (30 jobs and $10,116,551 in capital investments) VIP Vegas is a digital printing facility under the ownership of Corrugated Synergies International, LLC (CSI). CSI is a parent company that for 30 years has been the innovative leader in sheet feeding to the corrugated industry. CSI has developed and operated twelve highly successful sheet feeder operations and three full line box plants, employing 16 state-of-the-art corrugators in addition to opening a fully digital print facility last year in New Mexico. VIP’s Las Vegas facility will respond to the market demand for short-run high graphics corrugated packaging.
  • Webstaurant Store, Inc. – Lyon County: (78 jobs and $34,598,777 in capital investments) Established in 2004, Webstaurant is the largest online restaurant supply store serving food service professionals and individual customers worldwide. The company offers over 300,000 products from restaurant equipment, commercial refrigeration, to food and beverages; everything that restaurants need to succeed in their businesses.
  • Premier Displays & Exhibits, Inc. – Clark County: (59 jobs and $9,820,800 in capital investments) Premier Displays is an award-winning end-to-end exhibit production house specializing in the design, fabrication and activation of convention and trade show exhibit spaces, retail environments and brand experiences across the globe.
  • Xtreme Manufacturing, LLC – Clark County: (97 jobs and $1,541,000 in capital investments) Xtreme Manufacturing was founded in the State of Nevada in 2003 and now offers the largest product line of its kind in North America. The company is a leading manufacturer of heavy equipment and construction machinery including lifts, loaders, and telehandlers. The company’s Henderson headquarters is home to its Engineering, Fabrication, and Assembly departments.
    *Job creation is based on a five-year plan

Additionally, the Board approved to enter into an agreement with Western Nevada College for the development of a mobile industrial technology lab to expand access to training opportunities in rural Nevada, with funding not to exceed $350,000.
