RURAL Economic &Community Development
The Rural Economic and Community Development Division of the Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) is tasked with promoting and facilitating economic and community development throughout rural Nevada. The overarching objective is to build prosperity and enhance the quality of life in rural Nevada. The Division works towards this objective primarily through community development, which creates stronger, more connected communities where residents have a greater ability to shape their own future and achieve a higher quality of life.
This can include: infrastructure improvements; business creation, attraction, retention, and expansion efforts; capital improvements; beautification; programming; historic preservation; and other activities that help build healthy, economically vibrant communities. The Rural Economic and Community Development Division utilizes several programs within its purview to achieve this goal, including the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program and the Nevada Main Street Program.

Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)
The CDBG program funds community development in Nevada. GOED administers grants for smaller cities and counties, focusing on rural infrastructure, while larger areas receive funds directly from HUD.

Main street
Nevada Main Street revitalizes downtowns through historic preservation, community development, beautification, and economic growth. The program supports local businesses and quality of life, offering adaptable, community-based initiatives that evolve over time.
