CARSON CITY, Nev. – Michael Brown, Executive Director of the Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED), announced today he will end his tenure at the conclusion of Governor Steve Sisolak’s term.

“Last week I advised Governor Sisolak that I will conclude my public service at the end of his term of office. It has been my greatest honor to serve in the Sisolak Administration, first as Director of the Department of Business and Industry (B&I) and then as Executive Director of the Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED),” Brown said. “As I return to private life, I take with me wonderful experiences serving the people of Nevada and working with the Governor, my colleagues in the Cabinet, and the Legislature. I will sincerely miss the dedicated career staff at B&I and GOED who helped me over the last four years.”

Brown was appointed by Governor Sisolak on November 4, 2019, after serving initially in the administration as the Director of the Department of Business & Industry. He was the point person for the Governor to enact the Collective Bargaining Legislation for state employees after 30 years of multiple unsuccessful attempts. He also served on the senior team for the pandemic through the response and recovery phases and then developing the resiliency plan that guided economic recovery and relief initiatives. GOED became the back-up staff for the Governor’s office during the initial pandemic response.

Since Brown became executive director, GOED and its Board of Directors approved 96 companies that have received abatements that will create 14,652 jobs over five years. These companies are making $3.9 billion in capital investments and will generate $1.5 billion in new net tax revenues.

Brown previously held two roles at Barrick Gold of North America, the world’s largest gold mining company. First, he served as the Vice President of U.S. Public Affairs before becoming the president of the organization. In addition, he served eight years under President Ronald Reagan at the U.S. Treasury as Special Assistant to the Director of the U.S. Mint. He started his career in the Ohio House of Representatives, working for Representative William Batchelder III.
