CARSON CITY, Nev. – The Nevada APEX Accelerator, a division of the Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED), has received an extension of its cooperative agreement with the U.S. Department of Defense through March 31st, 2024.
“The significance of this achievement lies in the sustainment of the Nevada APEX Accelerator, which serves as a pivotal resource for both large and small enterprises, including newly established businesses, seeking government procurement technical assistance,” said Joan C. Rueben, GOED Director of the Nevada APEX Accelerator. “Government procurement technical assistance encompasses specialized guidance and counseling offered to clients, enabling them to identify potential bidding and contractual opportunities. This assistance further facilitates their ability to secure and execute contracts, innovation and technology grants, and other federally funded instruments. When Nevada businesses secure these opportunities, they can scale and create jobs, keep jobs, and diversify the economy.”
These opportunities span across engagements with the Department of Defense, other federal agencies, state and/or local governments, and federal, state, and/or local government contractors.
The Nevada APEX Accelerator plays a vital role in assisting businesses to:
- Complete essential registrations across various databases, a prerequisite for engaging in government-centric marketplaces (e.g., SAM).
- Identify relevant agencies and offices requiring their products and/or services and establishing connections with these purchasing entities.
- Assess their readiness for government opportunities and strategize effectively for success.
- Navigate through solicitation processes and potential funding prospects.
- Regularly receive notifications concerning government contract opportunities.
- Forge valuable networks with procurement officers, prime contractors, and fellow businesses.
- Discuss performance-related challenges, after contract award.
Presently, the Nevada APEX Accelerator is part of the U.S. Department of Defense’s overall APEX Accelerators program, and APEX Accelerators across the U.S. and in some U.S. territories are placing special emphasis on aiding underserved businesses that qualify for government procurements designed to promote diversity, inclusion, and equity. These efforts involve comprehensive guidance throughout the entire engagement process. The focus remains on augmenting and increasing the count of Defense Industrial Base (DIB)-ready and Government Industrial Base (GIB, encompassing local and state governments and non-Department of Defense federal agencies)-ready businesses. This includes:
- Small Disadvantaged Businesses (SDBs).
- Small businesses located in Historically Underutilized Business Zones (HUBZones).
- Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Businesses (SDVOSBs).
- Women-Owned Small Businesses (WOSBs).
- Other underserved small businesses.
