The mission allowed us to showcase Nevada’s robust economic development strategy of Realizing Nevada’s Electric, Innovative, and Connected Future as we seek to become a global leader in this new economy. More than 40 Nevada delegates met with various stakeholders in two Canadian Provinces, Quebec and Ontario, to expand Nevada's business opportunities and industry development. The four-day itinerary included panel discussions with industry representatives, presentations by government entities, and several opportunities to network with Canadian companies and organizations. A special thank you to everyone who could join us from these government offices: Ontario Premier's Office, Quebec Ministry of International Affairs, Ontario Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, Ontario Ministry of Intergovernmental Affairs, Ontario Northern Development and Mines, and Quebec Ministry of Mines. The bill aims at fostering entrepreneurship and economic growth, marking a significant milestone in the state’s commitment to empowering individuals and spurring young company growth. AB77 establishes a dedicated Office of Entrepreneurship within the Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED). |

| | | | Nevada’s State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI) received another boost as the state was among the first three states funded for its Technical Assistance Program (TA). The Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) which oversees the state’s SSBCI Program will partner with the Nevada Small Business Development Center (SBDC) which will assist small businesses with credit counseling, financial statements and general business guidance. Although the program’s goal is to reach all eligible business owners across Nevada, the TA program encourages eligible small businesses that are at least 51 percent owned by individuals who certify that they belong to a group that has faced historical and/or systematic barriers to accessing credit to apply. |
| | | | Cordillera International Film Festival Cordillera International Film Festival (CIFF) is Nevada’s largest premiere film festival spanning more than five days and takes place in the Reno-Tahoe region annually. The festival features more than 150 films and several educational panels. CIFF celebrates the art of filmmaking and screenwriting while providing a platform for underrepresented communities. Among the Special Award Categories is the Nevada Filmmakers category where the winning film is directed by a Nevada resident or production took place primarily in Nevada. Aside from the networking opportunities and support for the Northen Nevada Film Community, the most important aspect of this film festival for the Nevada Film Office, is the Film Nevada Initiative VIP experience where select filmmakers have a chance to explore the region up close and in person and while having personal access to our staff. GOED was a sponsor of this year’s festival and NFO’s Danette Tull is an advisory board and special jury member. |

| Battle Born Venture, Nevada’s state-sponsored venture capital program operating under the federal State Small Business Credit Initiative (SSBCI) participated in TuBiomics latest seed-stage funding round. The Knowledge Fund, administered by the Nevada Governor’s office of Economic Development (GOED), is a major instrument to spur the commercialization of university developed intellectual property (IP). Through the Knowledge Fund, GOED supports projects at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), the University of Nevada, Reno (UNR), and DRI. |

| The Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) approved seven companies that will receive $30,701,667 in tax abatements. In return, these companies are projected to create 491 jobs in the next two years at an average weighted hourly wage of $42.36. That figure is expected to grow to 738 jobs in five years. Additionally, these companies will make capital investments of $273,998,515 and generate $115,334,375 million in new tax revenues over the 10-year abatement period. |

| | | | Since March of 2023, GOED’s Nevada APEX Accelerator has been working as part of a team with other government agencies and other organizations that brought Committed to Our Business Community (CTOBC) event. The event was held at the Las Vegas Convention Center - West Hall, in order for Nevada businesses to meet with resources to help them grow their companies. GOED’s Nevada APEX Accelerator thanks the following government agencies/entities and others, and the countless exhibitors that are not listed, that met with Nevada business owners and representatives to share contracting opportunities and resource information with the community; State of Nevada Department of Business and Industry, Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada, Harry Reid International Airport, Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, Las Vegas Valley Water District and the City of Las Vegas. There were more than 200 business representatives from the public that attended the event which included 82 exhibitors from various government agencies and others that were each staffing outreach tables. |
| | | Council of State Community Development Agencies In September, our Rural and Community Development Division represented by Shari Davis, Jessica Sanders, and Suzette Manzares participated in COSCDA's Annual Conference in Annapolis, Md. | | | Nevada’s Woman-owned Hispanic Businesses are Underfunded — the State Is Offering a Way Forward I have worked in Nevada’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC) for almost a decade, and we’ve made some major strides for woman-owned Hispanic businesses in that time. When I started my first role at the SBDC, I was the only staff member who spoke Spanish. Now, more than half a dozen of our advisers offer business counseling in Spanish. It matters, because Nevada has a higher percentage of women-owned (53 percent) and Hispanic-owned (18.3 percent) businesses than the U.S. percentages of women-owned (21.4 percent) and Hispanic-owned (6.5 percent) businesses, and we need them to succeed if we want our state to thrive. |
